According to an article by the Better Business Bureau on renting mini storage units, these are things to look at:
- Safety features. Not only do you need a lock to secure your unit, but you should make sure that the facility has proper safety and security features in place. Whether this includes cameras, gated access, or both, you need to make sure that your facility is safe.
- Size and cost. You need to get different quotes for the sizes of units that are available. Depending on how much stuff you need to store, you will have to look at the sizes that are available and find one that fits your storage needs and your budgets. Don't be afraid to ask for discounts and deals that might be going on.
- Climate control? Sometimes, it's hard to determine whether you need climate controlled storage units, but you do have to think about it. Some items need more protection than others. This is an option to consider but you should remember it will usually cost you a little more than you might be used to paying. For the protection of your property, though, it's worth it.
- Access options. If you need to be able to access your stuff 24/7, you'll have to find a facility that allows it. Otherwise, you will need to learn about hours of operation and arrange it so that you can get in when the facility is open.
